Join us on a holiday to Paphos
Known as Aphrodite’s Isle, Cyprus is rich in historical architecture and vast Mediterranean beaches- and the Cypriot town of Paphos has this in spades.
Paphos. Oh, the pathos! If you’ve ever hoped to holiday in Cyprus, UNESCO-listed Paphos is a convenient, stunning base. Located on the southwestern coast of Cyprus, the city has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. Over the years, the coastal city served as the hub of the cult of Aphrodite and pre-Hellenic fertility divinity.
Just outside the northern walls of the old town of Paphos is the eerily brilliant Tombs of the Kings. This alluring necropolis comprises a unique collection of caves and sandstone tombs dating all the way back to the 4th century. A stop in Paphos isn’t complete without a visit to the Kato Paphos Archaeology Park, the most famous ruins that hail from the Roman era. At this site, the ruins of four Roman villas are still intact, featuring intricate mosaics detailing scenes from Roman mythology.
Got a bit of a sweet tooth? A holiday in Paphos is your time to sample the sunny country’s favourite sweet, Loukoumi. Considered the Greek Cypriot answer to Turkish Delight, the sweet is a chewy candy generously misted with powdered sugar. In Paphos, you can witness how the sweet is intricately made, and then savour a delicious bite.
Did you know that Cyprus basks in more than 330 days of sunshine a year? Thanks to its idyllic Mediterranean location, it’s the ultimate setting for a much-needed dose of winter sun. Soak up some rays in the oceanfront city of Paphos at your next opportunity.
